This match was all about winning the toss.
Batting first on a wet pitch was always going to be tricky, setting a target that you could defend as the weather cleared after tea almost impossible.
Luckily we won the toss and so there were problems for the Kelseymen.
Cheriton were blessed with a vintage Foan performance in the field (the ball will be quicker and the "dive" more athletic every time he retells the story) and the rest of us chipped inĀ here and there to limit the visitors to 173 off 38 overs. Given the conditions this was not a bad score, but batting after tea was always going to be easier.
Ruth's tea was magnificent as always and we set out to chase the target in good spirits. John's spirits dropped somewhat after Mike called for a two. Flabbergasted at his call John was frozen to the spot and could not make his ground. Jim played quite beautifully and was the only one of us to time the ball regularly, Ben played nicely but skied one, Aaron's little cameo almost saw us to the end and Will decided to make it interesting by getting out with the scores level. In the end it was up Charles and Nick with help from the ever reliable Extras to crawl over the line.
